When travel is better to have a backpack or suitcase?

I have plans to travel throughout the United Kingdom and possibly Europe. I am not so much that my back, probably would be a mistake in the use of a backpack. And a wheeled suitcase would be easy. But I always thought it would be easier to travel around a large backpack. Although I'm not sure why, it seems quite the thing.
