Portugal has always been popular amongst us Brits and it's easy to see why. The sun is probably the main pull. The Mediterranean climate lends itself to scorching summers and mild winters, but the spring and early summers are perfect and with very mild winters an average temperature of 13-18 degrees is maintained.
Portugal is a diverse country and as such has a wide appeal for a variety of people. From the pretty villages that dot the countryside, to the golden sandy beaches, to vibrancy of the cities to the culture of the major cities. It's an incredibly beautiful country plentiful with wild flowers and a sparkly blue sea.
Even though the cities are as modern and exciting as its European counterparts it still feels like a country of diversity and discovery. The whole history of the country can be learned through the range of historic buildings. A walk along the rugged cliffs or coastline brings you to hidden coves and private caves. Transport is very straightforward making it very easy to get around and exploration easy. Life outside the cities is calm and relaxed, people enjoy good food, good wine and are more relaxed in their daily tasks.
Due to the variety of landscapes and activities available Portugal also appeals to a wide variety of budgets. Before travelling it might be worth thinking about ways to send money to Portugal, so you can get the most out of your money.
Many Brits have however fallen in love with Portugal so much after having a holiday there that they've decided to stay on a more permanent basis. It's very accessible to the UK with flight times from London to Lisbon under 2 and a half hours. Portugal property finance is relatively simple to organise and if you're keen to find your own individual case then a mortgage in Portugal is very easy to arrange.
