The Parkway Drive Albums And Their History
Parkway Drive is a metalcore band formed in 2002 in New South Wales, Australia. They currently have three released albums: Killing With A Smile, Horizons, and Deep Blue. They also have great Parkway Drive Merch for their legions of fans to wear.
The place of origin for the band is somewhat surprising. First of all, their hometown is Byron Bay which is a very tranquil and idyllic spot on that side of Australia. Yearly, it is frequented by backpackers who enjoy its surrounding forests as well as its sandy beaches. Therefore it is a big surprise that a band such as the Parkway Drive would emerge from this locale.
The band currently made up of: Jeff Ling and Luke Kilpatrick at guitars, Winston McCall as their frontman, Jia O'Conner at bass guitar, and Ben Gordon at the drums.
The Origin of Parkway Drive
Unlike other band names, Parkway Drive got their name in a not so mysterious way. Back in 2002 when they were still getting started, they used to practice in the garage of a house that was on Parkway Drive. It is as simple as that.
Come some months after their formation, the band released a split EP together with another band which was the I Killed The Prom Queen. The EP was called the "I Killed The Prom Queen / Parkway Drive Split CD.
The year 2005 came and they finally got the chance to record the first of their Parkway Drive albums which was produced by Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz. In August of that same year, the album Killing With A Smile was released.
A year later, Shaun Cash who was playing the bass guitar for the band, decided to leave. He was soon replaced by Jia "Pie" O'Connor who immediately played with them during the band's first international tour in Europe and the rest of the United States.
The album, Killing With A Smile was praised by many critics for its technical musical precision which they believe would be a hit to all extreme music fanatics.
On October 6, 2007 the band's next album, Horizons, was released. It contained their hit single "The Sirens' Song" which they originally played before a crowd at Underworld a few months earlier. They immediately followed the album's release with a tour of the United States, Europe, and Australia.
Horizons debuted at No. 6 in the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Albums Chart on October 14, 2007 and ranked no. 27 in the Top Heatseekers chart. By this time, almost every band store is offering their various merchandise due to high demand.
The third and the latest of their albums, as of this writing, is Deep Blue. It was launched on the 29th of June, 2010 still under Epitaph Records and was recorded in Los Angeles. It took the band three years to come up with this album, their longest interval so far. Deep Blue immediately ranked at number 2 in the Aria charts.
Winston McCall described this third album as telling the story of a man who finally realized that his life was full of lies. The man soon went on a journey that saw him going to the depths of the ocean and back again in his quest for the truth.
With their three successful albums and equally successful world tours, and not to mention the demand for their band merch, Parkway Drive is not only Australia's most famous metalcore bands, but also among the best around the globe.
