The year 2006 was really a banner year and the best horror movies of 2006 list of horror movies, of which some used green screen backgrounds in green screen studios, that I provide here will be a bit controversial, however, these lists often are. The key reason why no person can agree on these listings is that while several people think of all slasher motion pictures to be horror, some only think that supernatural elements make up the horror category. We all can’t be that picky so we will evaluate every one of them in the following summation lest we offend any sensitivities out there.
“Feast” which is directed by John Gulager was actually released in the year 2005 but failed to strike the movie theaters until 2006. Featuring the typical zombies run amok plot, it goes off track easily and remains fairly hard to bear. Incredibly gory and terrifying and certainly a must see. Very few amazing horror movies have been made from great horror books however the top of the gang are “The Exorcist” (original book by William Peter Blatty), “Carrie” (Stephen King), and “The Shining” (King once again).
Six girls get caught in an underground cave maze while spelunking and are chased by albino earth-dwelling creatures in this rather frightening motion picture directed by Neil Marshall. The very best thing about this motion picture is that they develop the story and characters very carefully to ensure that we as as viewers get really involved with each individual. We care about what happens to them and thus the scary parts are even scarier.
“Hostel” is also in my top scary motion pictures of 2006 list though it doesn't have a supernatural element into it since it is extremely frightening at times and often disturbing. A group of backpackers traveling to Europe get lured right into a hostel that has lovely girls playing around in skimpy outfits. They get kidnapped and placed as victims into a “torture club” for wealthy sickos. Definitely not for the kids.
Another of the very best terror motion pictures 2006 is “Turistas” which lots of people hated but I loved, considering I've spent lots of time in the jungles of Central America and can relate with the subject material. Tourists being robbed and set upon by the locals always makes for excellent suspense motion picture. Not really conventional “horror” but scary enough as a suspense film. What make up “horror” anyway? Does any person actually get mortified anymore? The most these kinds of motion pictures will do to normal jaded audiences is really a surprise occasionally that makes all of them jump out of their own seats.
The last film that was truly horrifying was “The Exorcist” which remained with you long after you left the movie theater. That feeling of fear which made you fearful to sleep alone through the night doesn't arrive often. One more movie which scared me like that was “The Blair Witch Project” but I do know lots of people disliked it and even got sick watching the moving camera shots. “Paranormal Activity” was much like Blair Witch, with plenty of handheld camera parts although not quite as numerous as in Blair Witch or Cloverfield.
Grab the snacks and gummy bears. Time to get scared!
