The Joys Of Packing For Backpacking
You think you got it all figured out. School is over and you have made it. You are a grown up. Some of you may go off to college, some of you get married and have children and some of you get to travel. And as everyone knows, backpacking across Europe can be legendary. Some feel it enhances the maturity process in students that are college level and others can’t wait for the giant party to begin, Amsterdam is one of the most important stops on the trip. Sunshine, Alcohol who could ask for anything more right?. No matter what your reason, packing is going to be very important as far as comfort and sensibility play into factor.
Air travel: If you are one to take a flight to Amsterdam, you will normally land at Schiphol Airport that lies at about 18 kilometres at the southwest from the city center. From this airport you can take a train every twenty minutes to Central Station which you can reach exactly in 20 minutes. Having travelled by air and rail, it is now by road that you reach the town by a taxi-ride for 15 minutes. To which place in the town you go decides the cost, though it hovers around 30 GBP normally. When you travel to Amsterdam by air, check up the airport where the flight lands, because certain cheaper airlines fly to Rotterdam Airport from where it takes about an hour by bus to reach the city center.
Take These With You - Before backpacking travel in Europe there are a few mantras ever person should chant. These chants are said to have been created by the famous, Oh-My-Back Monks of Southeast Asia. These monks were well known for traveling halfway to far off cities, then turning around returning home and then turning back around and traveling the full way to the said cities. Religious experts ponder the deep spiritual meaings of such trips. Later in history these experts where shocked and embarassed when the monks revealed the nature of the back and forth trips were due to the cause of forgetting something, such as turning off the iron. Regardless, these chants have grown to represent a guiding light for experienced backpackers.
By road: Amstel station in Amsterdam is the place where the buses to London, Brussels and other cities of Amsterdam, depart and arrive. Again, you can travel by metro from Central Station to Amstel station.
Obviously, chanting these new mantras will not bring you instant enlightenment. Fear not though. Items are disposable or can be shipped back to your trusted family or friends, or even the officer who's calls you've missed about that drug test you owe him. For resourceful backpackers, it is common to send particularly toxic smelling/discolored/clothing to an ex or annoying younger sibling. Following these practical ideas will lead to you being happy while speaking quite loud hoping foreigners will comprehend you.
By walk: The city center of Amsterdam is not very vast and apart from Red Light District and Dam Square, all other sites worth watching involve a few minutes ride on bike or tram, which means you can freely have a stroll and enjoy. Hire a bike: However, the best way to enjoy Amsterdam is through a bike-ride. You can hire a bike as cheap as at 7 GBP a day, as there are an unbelievable 500,000 bikes if you ask. But the city has a high incidence of bike thefts and it is prudent that you safeguard your bike by locking it.
To make sure you keep those magical moments from your trip live on paper, you should take a diary of some sort or some type of notebook or journal to record dates, times, and addresses. Store it someplace safe and then if you need to burn it later. You can save it for later and bring it out on your next stressful day. I’m sure it would make excellent ready material for in the bathtub. Make sure the book you choose to record everything is strong and maybe a little beer proof. On your way home from the slammer, hotel or barn you woke up in you will remember the people you met and the fun you had getting there.
