Sharm El Sheikh Holidays For Hippies At Heart
In the late 80s, Egypt became a haven for hippies, with the equable climate, the cheap accommodation, low cost food and drink and the chance to earn money, acting as a guide to the tourists. Basic items are sold at nominal prices in the souks and bazaars. The hippies were attracted to the region by the same things which continue to attract tourists on Sharm el Sheikh holidays nowadays. Dahab, a small Bedouin village located on the east coast of the Sinai desert is where the majority of hippies can be found nowadays and they sell home-made items at the region's famous hippy market.
Dahab holidays are ideal for those seeking something more relaxing. Dahab is a small town, located 53 miles north of Sharm el Sheikh. The isolated coastal village became a popular hangout for hippies in the 1980s. By the 90s, it had a reputation for being an ‘alternative’ resort, with cheap accommodation, and a laid back attitude to life. Dahab contains two ports. The Bedouin village of Assalah is located to the north and attracts backpackers with its kilometre long beach. People that come on Dahab holidays come to see the Bedouin oasis at Ein Khudra, the Coloured Canyon, with rocks of all different colours and the Lagoona, a long sandy stretch close to Dahab City.
Holidaymakers who book Sharm el Sheikh holidays usually love Ras Umm Sid which is located next to the local lighthouse. It may be the un-crowded beach that attracts them or the warm seas or the wealth of marine life. There are a number of fan corals dotted around the reef of the beach making it especially scenic. A multitude of fish are attracted to the strong currents and 130 different types of coral. Nabq Bay holidays are popular with those seeking a laid-back beach holiday.
