Gonna Go To Hawaii To Play Some Golf
With its beautiful climate and year round temperate temperatures, it is no surprise that Hawaii is home to some of the greatest golfing in the country. For golfers and non-golfers alike, the towns of Kihei and Princeville offer entertainment in the sun and plenty of opportunities to explore the great outdoors. Golf courses, the volcano parks, and plenty of beaches make this part of the planet a top destination for adventure vacationers.
Kihei is a town on Maui’s southern shore. It is found on the leeward side of the volcano called Haleakala. The climate is dry and the town receives no more than 10 inches of rain per year, making it an perfect place for the year round golfer. Beach vacations that contain a round or two of golf with a view of the ocean is easily a wonderful afternoon.
Some of the better known courses in the region include the Maui Elleair Golf Club. This is a course which has 6,404 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. It was planned by Bill Newis and opened in 1987. The Wailea Golf Club is another destination for the avid golfer. This is an 18 hole course which contains 6,758 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. It was designed by Arthur Jack Snyder and opened in 1971. The Makena Golf Courses are also worth a round or two, as they accept steady extremely positive testimonials and take advantage of the fairly arid weather on the leeward side of the volcano.
For those interested in romantic travel and outdoor adventure while exploring Kihei, the Haleakala National Park is at your doorstep. This is a 30,183 acre National Park which encircles the crater of the volcano. 24,719 acres of the park are specified as wilds and are offered to hikers and backpackers. The park comprises the summit depression, Kipahulu Valley on the southeast, and a variety of secluded streams and pools. The park extends to the shore. For folks interested in hiking, there are two central trails leading into Haleakala from the top. These are known as Sliding Sands Trail and Halemauu Trail.
It’s essential to note a few factors about the trails and park for the volcano adventurer. The high altitude at the summit of the volcano means that some of the hiking can be more demanding than you might think. Temperatures are cool, but thirst is a genuine risk.
On the north shore of the island of Kaua’I is Princeville, a small town that really loves its golf. Princeville hosts two world class championship golf courses called Prince Golf Course and Makai Golf Course. Jointly they comprise 45 holes of superbly designed golf. The courses have earned Golf Digest’s ranking of number one in the State of Hawaii. Golf Digest also ranked the courses as number 14 in its record of America’s Best Resort Golf Courses and number thirty nine in America’s Top 100 Greatest Courses.
