Gonna Go To Hawaii To Play Some Golf
With its lovely weather and year round mild temperatures, it is no wonder that Hawaii is home to some of the finest golf in the nation. For golfers and non-golfers alike, the towns of Kihei and Princeville offer entertainment in the sun and plenty of possibilities to explore the great outdoors. Golf courses, the volcano parks, and plenty of beaches make this segment of the world a chief vacation destination for adventure vacationers.
Kihei is a town on Maui’s southern shore. It is found on the leeward side of the volcano called Haleakala. The local weather is dry and the town receives no more than 10 inches of precipitation per year, making it an ideal spot for the year round golfer. Beach vacations that include a round or two of golf with a view of the ocean is simply a great afternoon.
Some of the better known courses in the vicinity include the Maui Elleair Golf Club. This is a course which has 6,404 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 71. It was designed by Bill Newis and opened in 1987. The Wailea Golf Club is an additional destination for the avid golfer. This is an 18 hole course which contains 6,758 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. It was designed by Arthur Jack Snyder and opened in 1971. The Makena Golf Courses are also worth a round or two, as they accept steady positive comments and take advantage of the relatively arid weather on the leeward side of the volcano.
For folks interested in romantic travel and outdoor adventure while exploring Kihei, the Haleakala National Park is at your doorstep. This is a 30,183 acre National Park which encircles the crater of the volcano. 24,719 acres of the park are specified as wilderness and are accessible to hikers and backpackers. The park consists of the summit depression, Kipahulu Valley on the southeast, and a variety of secluded streams and pools. The park extends to the seashore. For folks interested in hiking, there are two core trails leading into Haleakala from the pinnacle. These are known as Sliding Sands Trail and Halemauu Trail.
It’s significant to note a few items about the trails and park for the volcano adventurer. The high altitude at the summit of the volcano means that some of the hiking can be more arduous than you might think. Temperatures are cool, but dehydration is a real possibility.
On the north shore of the island of Kaua’I is Princeville, a small town that genuinely loves its golf. Princeville features two world class championship golf courses called Prince Golf Course and Makai Golf Course. Together they comprise 45 holes of terrifically designed golf. The courses have earned Golf Digest’s score of number one in the State of Hawaii. Golf Digest also graded the courses as number 14 in its register of America’s Best Resort Golf Courses and number thirty nine in America’s Top 100 Greatest Courses.
