The Parkway Drive Albums And Their History
One of the most popular metalcore bands today is Parkway Drive. The band was formed back in 2002 in New South Wales, Australia. So far there are three albums under their names and these are: Killing With A Smile, Horizons, and Deep Blue. And aside from the albums, there are now high demand for great Parkway Drive merch today.
Byron Bay, the hometown where the band was exactly started, is actually a very peaceful, quiet and idyllic town with sandy beaches and lush tropical vegetation. It is considered by many as a backpacker's top destination down under. Therefore it comes as a big surprise to learn that a metalcore band like Parkway Drive would be formed from this village.
Their current band line up is: Winston McCall at vocals, Ben Gordon at drums, Jeff Ling with guitar, Jia O'Connor at bass guitar, and Luke Kilpatrick also at guitar.
How The Band Was Formed
There is no great mystery or weird story behind the band's name, unlike those from other groups. They used to practice in a house was located on Parkway Drive. When it came time to come up with their own band, they did not have to go far.
A few months later, they released what is called a split EP with another band called I Killed The Prom Queen which was based from Adelaide. The EP was aptly titled "I Killed The Prom Queen / Parkway Drive Split CD.
It was Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz who then produced the first of their Parkway Drive albums and it was titled Killing With A Smile. The album was launched in August of 2005 under Epitaph Records.
But just some months after that, their bass guitarist at that time, Shaun Cash, decided to leave the band and he was replaced by Jia O'Connor. Jia was already with the band when they kicked off their first international tour of the U.S. and Europe.
Killing With A Smile was praised by critics as containing technical musical precision that will appeal to all extreme music fans.
On the 6th of October, 2007 Horizons, the band's second album, was released. Its hit single "The Siren's Song" was originally played by the band in front of the crowd at Underworld was immediately well received After the album launch, they went on a tour of Europe, Australia, and the United States.
The album immediately rose to the number 6 spot of the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Albums Chart. It also ranked at number 27 in the Top Heatseekers chart. Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Albums Chart.
The latest of the Parkway Drive albums is Deep Blue which was released on June 29, 2010 under Epitaph Records. It was recorded in Los Angeles, California. It was also the longest interval from their last released album which was three years ago. Deep Blue debuted at no. 2 in the ARIA charts and at no. 39 on the Billboard 200 chart.
The band described their latest album as the story of a man who realises that his life is a lie and he then searches for the truth. In his journey he had to journey to the bottom of the ocean and back again. Deep Blue is the most critically acclaimed of all the Parkway Drive albums and is said to be a continuous weaving of music and lyrics from start to the end.
With all of these successes, Parkway Drive is truly in the limelight today. They have bestselling albums, concert tours, and also band merch which their legions of fans would never get tired of.
